Wednesday - Make Your Own Drink Coasters

Make Your Own Drink Coasters featuring our StarSea logo

What you'll need:
Photo paper or sturdy cardstock
Scissors
Pencil or pen
Ruler (optional)
Colour printer
Glue
Self-laminating clear plastic sheets or clear acrylic sealer
Cork sheets
StarSea logo templates (see below)

Instructions:
Using the ruler and the pencil or pen, trace a 4"  x 4" square on the cork sheet. If your cork sheet is thin, create two or more of these for every coaster you're going to make, to add some weight..

Cut as many 4" squares as you'll need for your coasters.

If you need to glue two or more sheets together, do so now.

While you're waiting for the glue to dry, print out the templates (below) on a colour printer. To select a template, right click on it (PC), or Ctrl-click (Mac), then save it to your computer's desktop. Open the template in a photo editing program, and print it out on photo paper or cardstock. (The templates may look smaller than 4" x 4" on your screen but they'll print out the right size.)

Trim the template. If you're laminating the paper, cover both sides with the self-adhesive sheets and trim.

Glue the templates to your cork squares. Wait for the glue to dry.

If you're using acrylic sealer instead of self-laminating plastic, apply a coat or two of this now.

Voila! Your own set of coasters - just like the ones our bartender Samuel uses in the TopDeck Lounge! Please scroll down to see them!

If you've enjoyed the information on this page, please consider buying my novel Cold Play. The story is set on a cruise ship in Alaska, and the crafts on this page were inspired by the daily passenger activities which take place on board the ship.

In Cold Play, Jason Davey has literally run away to sea after the death of his makeup artist wife, finding work as a contract entertainer aboard a much-adored but soon-to-be-retired cruise ship, the Star Sapphire. But when three people from his past come board as passengers, Jason's routine week-long trip to Alaska becomes anything but.
